As an illustration to the sound of the big Italian 5 string bass viola da gamba after Veronese:

Pavan (Belle qui tiens ma vie) for 3 Renaissance violins, Bass, and of course percussion.

As an accompaniment to the poem (in old French) « Sonnet » (it's actually not exactly a sonnett) :

Loe Heere another Love, for 2 Renaissance violins.

violins : J-C Féret.

The Renaissance violin didn't yet have that small piece of wood called "sound post", and the bridge was placed much more toward the tail piece, so the strings were longer by more than an inch.
