Jean-Claude Féret

La Déesse Nue.

That's the story of Psyche in search of the immortality. Each of the 13 dances (chained together) represents a trial, but also a failure to attain it… would it be by the drunkeness, the magic, esoterism (Greek or Egyptian), or even by the voluptuousness… the only certainty being, at the end, and on a harsh cry of the violin that encounter with the death… Everything changes then… the ambiance, the colour of the air: the time is not anymore for the anguish, for the vain researches… with few low chords, in parallel harmonies, the piano builds up and imposes the calm of the set… She dies standing… and Litta to ask (choregrapic indications):

« at the poignant moment ofPsyche's death, she wan't fall on the ground. She'll initiate her spectators to the mystery of a death before all symbolic! She will then stay standing, immobile, stiffened, the eyes closed with obstination till the end of the piece. Her hands will be crossed over her breast, the head directed toward the sky, as if she was expecting to be taken into the air by an occult and mysterious force : as if she wanted to give the whole of herself with this initiating death! She will then ressemble to a true earthly statue, erected to the "supreme and divine beauty of the flown away soul"

And to finish, her dance will be a cult to Isis……! (Florence, May 1912)»
